Another weekend and another sportive with Newport Shropshire Cycling Club members James Lu Pix and Dan Braddock taking part in the Great Manchester Cycle event. This fantastic event offered three different distances for cyclists of all abilities, using a 13 mile City based circuit within Manchester and the neighbouring borough of Trafford which is completely closed to all other vehicles.
James rode the 26 mile route completing it in a time of 01:22:11 averaging just over 19 miles per hour, while Dan who had ridden the 26 mile distance previously in 2012, opted for the longer distance of 52 miles and completed it in 03:18:02 averaging 15.7 mile per hour.
James was very pleased with his time for the event and gave him a chance to test his strength on a fast TT style course.
Dan was ecstatic at achieving a time under 3 and half hours. “It was an intense ride because there is no respite like in an open road sportive. It felt strange riding straight through red lights for example,” Said Dan.
The event was officially opened by Olympic Gold Medalist Joanna Rowsell fresh from her triumph in the British National Time Trial in Glasgow.
