Richard Wilkinson of 4-Star Racing put in an impressive performance to claim the win in the Newport Shropshire Cycling Club Alan Goddard Memorial Road Race.
A field of over 50 riders started out from Sheriffhales in overcast conditions with Tony Kiss (Dynamic Bicycles UK) launching an early break. Kiss was quickly joined by Matthew Bonehill (Stafford RC/Henry Burton Cycles) and Justin Harcourt (Urban Cyclery RT).
By the second lap Wilkinson and Gareth Jones (Wolverhampton Wheelers) had bridged the gap with the advantage eventually growing to nearly one and a half minutes.
However a chasing group of seven pulled the deficit back to 20 seconds in the lap.
In the final straight Wilkinson found the strength to pull away for a clear victory.
