Newport Shropshire Cycling Club’s Warren Barber showed his continuing good form when he took a fine 3rd place in the TLI Liverpool Mercury Road Race in Bickerstaffe last weekend. Warren rode in an extremely competitive Under 50’s event which had attracted riders from all over the country. The 53 mile event was held on a relatively flat circuit which meant that the race speed was high with splits forming from the start.
Warren managed to get into a five man break at half distance which managed to hold off a chasing group which finished at thirty seconds, with the bunch a further thirty seconds in arrears. Warren took third in the final sprint which also earned him second place in his age category. The event was won by Liverpool’s Nigel Simpson, an ex-National Junior Road Race Champion.
