Reliability Is A Spring (Record) Breaker

Perfect Spring weather brought out record numbers of Shropshire cyclists for Newport Shropshire Cycling Club’s 2014 Reliability Ride on Sunday 9th March. With 192 riders starting the event, the largest contingent of riders were predictably from Newport Shropshire Cycling Club itself with almost 40 members signing on, however riders came from all over the region to enjoy the sunshine and the local roads.

The 30 mile route again proved popular and was altered to take in quieter roads in response to feedback from last year’s event. It was pleasing to see such a healthy take up of entries for the shorter event as NSCC seeks to encourage participation from all levels, not just elite club racers.

By far the largest selection chose to ride the 50 mile event with groups started in 5 minute intervals to reduce the size of the “peloton” on the road. Although the riders started off in large groups many returned in much smaller groups as the speed and distance took their effect.

The event was a huge success, with thanks to Newport Rugby Club for providing the venue and catering which was much appreciated after such a long ride!
