Rosie Goes From Strength To Strength

Newport CC’s Rosemary Homer is showing more impressive form in her debut road racing season. She has now managed to take placings on consecutive days.

Saturday saw her riding a criterium (short circuit) race at the Tudor Grange Park in Solihull.  Around 20 girls lined up, including several strong Cat 1 and 2 riders.

After 40 mins of racing, a small group were starting to pull away when the race had to be stopped to allow an ambulance onto the track for a collapsed rider.  The field then all started again with just 5 laps to go. This. meant that the remainder of the event was fast and furious. On the last lap Rosie moved up on the final hill, but had to nearly stop when she got switched.  Despite this Rosie managed to hang on for 10th.

On Sunday Rosie took part in another was another circuit race this time at the motorcycle circuit at Darley Moor. Racing here is always very competitive and around 32 girls lined up and Rosie sensibly opted to ride in the top third of the field throughout. The plan worked well and with one lap to go Rosie positioned herself behind one of the stronger girls and took 3rd place in the bunch sprint.

An excellent weekend overall which bodes well for her chances in August’s Newport Nocturne women’s event.securedownload (1)
