Another recent success story – here’s the report…
After a poor showing in the opening time trial event, Goddard was after revenge in the second event, known as the Devil.
Riding from the front, as the back four riders were pulled out ever two laps, Goddard made light work of reaching the closing stages and made it into the final selection coming home 7th.
After the race Goddard said: “My aim was to stay in the race as long as possible and avoid being eliminated as one of the last four riders. In the closing stages due to the quality of the field I had to make a few big efforts to make sure I was at the front when it mattered. This left me with nothing left at the finish but I was happy with seventh.”
The final race saw Goddard as one of the marked riders after his Devil performance in an anxious 40 minute race, which saw the pack stay as one for the majority of the race.
Coming into the final lap the Newport based rider looked to be boxed in with no space to get to the front, but he found a gap coming into the final few corners and went for it.
Leading out from the final corner only one rider was able to come around him before the line and Goddard took a well deserved second.
Goddard added: “It was a really good ride for me and I just tried to save as much energy as possible for the finish. With lots of crashes in the final few laps when I saw a gap open on the final lap I just went for it. I heard crashes behind me and was only just passed on the line but I was thrilled with second. It caps a good run of form for me with a 4th and 5th placing over the last few week.”
Well done to Ben for this great result!
