On Boxing day there will be a Cyclocross event held near Coventry, which Newport CC ‘Bike Club’ youngsters will be attending. This is an ideal opportunity to get your children and family out of the house after Christmas Day and let your children have a go at one of the most inclusive and fun cycling disciplines.
What is Cyclocross?
Cyclocross (or ‘cross) events use a short course, usually on grass or mixed grass/tarmac surfaces and age groups start from Under 6, so it is truly inclusive for all ages and the courses for younger riders are usually shorter and easier. The children’s races are short (approx. 10 minutes) and are always full of smiles, giggles and pride from all the children. The emphasis is all about having fun!
Is this for you and your family?
Whether riders are 5 or 85 years old, Cyclocross is for everyone! With short laps, every rider feels ‘in the mix’ of the racing action and will experience the support of spectators watching around the course. Matt Hale, one of Newport CC’s British Cycling Coaches will be at Coventry to provide a familiar face, should you or any of the riders have any queries on the day.
Keep it quick, or make a day of it!
The short children’s races means you can either ‘drop in’ to do the race and be on your way to other Boxing Day commitments within an hour, or hang around for a few hours watching the later Senior races whilst sipping a post-race hot chocolate!
We look forward to seeing you (and maybe a few new Christmas bikes) at Coventry on Boxing Day.
