We thought we would put together a list of 10 local sportives that may be of interest to many riders. We have tried to choose locally run events rather than the bigger events that tend to dominate coverage.
Sportives can be a great opportunity to see parts of the county you wouldn’t normally see. Some of the events are for charity or good causes whilst others are tribute rides to some of the Spring Classics.
Either way we think you will find something in the list you may want to try.
Ronde Van Rhino – 5th April 2015
The first running of this Tour of Flanders Tribute ride. It looks like it’s one for the harder riders with plenty of climbing.
Starting from Stan Jones Cycles in Shrewsbury.
The Telford Toothpaste “The Hell of the Wrekin” – 12th April 2015
The original and best “Paris-Roubaix” tribute ride starting in Ironbridge which means it involves climbing from the start. Certainly not for the faint hearted and you will need a sturdy bike and tyres to make it round the wide variety of surfaces. A portion of your entry fee goes to Cyclists Fighting Cancer.
By the way there will be mud! And afterwards everybody goes to The Black Swan pub to watch the finish of the Paris-Roubaix Race.
Georgia Williams Spring Challenge – 26th April 2015
This is the first year that the Georgia Williams Spring Challenge has taken place. The ride is in memory of local teen Georgia Williams and proceeds will go to the trust set up in her name.
There are a number of distances including a challenging 80 mile route. This would be a good route for those aiming to try an imperial century (100 miles) in 2015.

There is a 60 mile and 30 mile route with excellent rest stops along the way.

A challenging 65 mile ride at your own pace all on quiet roads and lanes among the beautiful Shropshire hills.
