Three British Cycling Awards for Club

British Cycling West Midlands Coach of the Year – Matt Bramford-Hale!

All our coaches are amazing, but Matt has had an outstanding year. Despite having a demanding career that has taken him all over the country, he’s delivered a huge amount of sessions, organised track sessions, led mtb runs, organised Go-Ride Race events and a trip to see the Revolution track meeting at Manchester. He has also upgraded his qualifications to Level 2 track Coach, using that to help run Track Club Cluster events. Matt has taken charge of our bike and equipment loan programme and has been instrumental in setting up Group 3, planning for the new Group 4, as well as organising Youth club runs. The setting up of our roller sessions at Lilleshall and the purchase of the necessary equipment was all down to Matt’s efforts. What a year!

British Cycling (National) Outstanding Achievement Award – Ollie Atkin

Newport CC Coach Ollie set up the unique Breaking Chains Cycling Club in order to introduce people affected by drug and substance abuse to cycling. Having had his own battles with addiction, Ollie was able to identify with those battling to recover from addictions and re-channel their energy into sport. Working with the club and Energize, the County Sports partnership, Ollie managed to raise the funding, train as a coach, source bikes and equipment and launch the scheme. The programme has been an outstanding success, changing lives forever. Ollie has already won several awards outside cycling, but with this National recognition by the sport’s governing body will hopefully be a springboard to roll out the scheme in other parts of the country. Well done Ollie, you’re an inspiration!

British Cycling (National) – Runner Up, Go-Ride Club of the Year!

We were surprised and honoured to take the runner up spot amongst so many incredible clubs around the country. There are over 300 Go-Ride clubs in the UK and they are effectively British Cycling’s portal for young rider development. Achieving Go-Ride club status together with the compulsory accreditation to Sport England’s Clubmark scheme is no mean feat in itself, so this award puts us amongst the best of the best, and it is an incredible achievement.

Our coaches and volunteers have done so much inspirational work this year that we couldn’t mention it all. However, the fact that we’ve been picked out for recognition from hundreds of development clubs should tell you just how amazing our ‘Bike Club’ team is. Well done everyone!
