As you’ll probably be aware, the Newport Nocturne will be returning after a four-year break, on Saturday 18th August.
Diane and Nick Jeggo are promoting the event and they’re asking the club to help bring the race to the public. With over 10,000 spectators attending previous events, it presents a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the club and our sport to the public.
Already quite a number of people have volunteered, from Newport CC, and from Nova Raiders, Newport Rotary and other organisations in the town. Thanks to all those members who’ve already stepped up.
For those of you who haven’t been to the Nocturne, the event is the UK’s original floodlit bike race, and in the past, it has attracted cycling stars such as Geraint Thomas, Mark Cavendish, Sean Kelly and David Millar. The races are held around a 1.2-mile circuit within the town centre.
We will need as many of you as possible to volunteer to help with the event. Most of the duties are fairly straightforward because the circuit is almost completely barriered. As some of the circuit is residential, we can cater for those of you who’d like somewhere quiet to marshal, so let us know. Also, if you’re able to help with the setting up of the event earlier in the day, please get in touch about that too. Off course Marshal briefing is at 3, on course marshal briefing is at 5, the event starts from 6pm. With a public access community ride around the course.
Chief Marshal for the event is our very own Kacey Round. You can contact Kacey to volunteer, or ask questions at: firstname.lastname@example.org
As a little incentive, Waitrose Newport are kindly providing the marshal food bags for our volunteers.
