In 1976 the late Robert Prentice (History teacher) formed the Burton Borough Cycling Club and started out with its young members competing in circuit racing, time trials, grass track and hard track racing throughout the Midlands.
Fast forward to 2018 and you could easily think this was always the case as the club finished on top of youth standings in the West Midlands Cyclo- Cross League.
It is a moment that many only dreamed of a few years ago when the club started its Go-Ride bike sessions. We’ve seen the sessions grow steadily with many riders progressing on to competing in a number of disciplines.
On top of this success we have also had riders competing internationally such as Charlie Fisher in the Junior Tour of Ireland. Even better was Tom Bullock being accepted onto the British Cycling regional school of racing.
We want to continue this success and as a result we will be co hosting a series of events at Shrewsbury Sports Village in conjunction with other clubs in the area.
Youth sport is the future of any sports club and whilst British Cycling is enjoying unprecedented success internationally we need to continue to develop the next generation of cyclist, no matter what level they ride at.
