Hi all,

The Nocturne is this Saturday.  We could still do with a few more marshals.  One of the groups who normally help have come up short.  Marshalling the Nocturne is relatively easy compared to other events because the course is almost entirely barriered and there is no traffic.  If you can help, please call Gwynn on 07974808990 .

Thanks!

Nick.

Thank you to everyone who came to our brunch-in-the-garden Sunday club ride stopover last month at home near Albrighton. You kindly donated £80 to the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation based in Birmingham. Thanks John for another £5 last Sunday.

If Paul’s instructions on uploading images works out, you can see some of Dipika’s pictures of the reds and blues amongst the oranges and pinks. There is also a thank you letter from CLDF asking whether we can send a few pictures for their quarterly news magazine. Unless I hear objections within 2 weeks, I will send them the best pics!

Thanks again. Maybe we’ll do it again next year for the club’s adopted charity.

Just a reminder that there is a MTB ride at Birches Valley, Cannock Chase at 10:00am on Sunday. So if you haven't cleaned your bike since last month now is the time to start scraping off that dried mud wink !

Cannock has recently opened the Monkey Trail and the 14 miles of combined trail now compare favourably to anywhere in the country.

There will be a slow group and a dare devil group so you should be able to find your level.

As it turned out i had a fab morning out...  yet again let down by the tyres...  Confirmed as i took them back to where i had bought them from (TURNED OUT BOTH TYRES to be FAULTY replaced FOC one tyre, because the other was worn I only paid for inner tubes and one tyre)...  Mare all over...  two new tyres and inner tubes for the new season...

Anyway no one is hurt, but must say very very eventful...  DRAMA Over (Tyre had somehow distorted and stretched beyond the Norm) hence faulty...

See you Sunday...

The Corsa CX has proved successful in road races all over the world, but the new EVO version is bound to even greater success.

Features are the Kevlar SiO2 3D Compound with added silica - for reduced rolling resistance and better grip in the wet. Our new high density casing - a true 320 tpi - delivers unbeatable comfort and superior performance with inflation pressure of up to 200psi! (Make sure your rim can take it )

mmmmmmmmmmm....  This is my recommendation...

200 PSI (Well this is the most i have ever seen on the market)

Well that is what going over a pot hole does two weeks ago on really fine race inner tubes, eventually they just give up and find the spot where the pot hole weakened the inner tube, yes out of coincidence the front tire did pop also the week before...  So to all, just be damn careful with potholes, especially the ones that you cannot see...

Apart from all that, i now have a task of finding a decent pump, my one just get me back, and takes ages to pump up...  I am open to any decent fast pumps that will get up to 116 psi (Which pump is best), i have never really had a decent pump, but i know now why...

Thank you to everyone who helped that day, the previous week i had the tire pop off the rim, put it back on and found after pumping back up it popped off the rim again, so with the others heading off into the distance of the cafe, i tried another inner tube.  Yes this did the trick and has worked fine ever since, i carried on and stopped off at Mamouth in stafford for another inner tube and headed out to the cafe.  After all that i got their before the others...  Even this last Sunday i wanted to go alot faster than i did, felt fine and held back a bit...  Billy is on his way back...

116 psi is for me...

Training in the wind this week has been fun so far, heavy going and tricky, i try and stay off the lanes, so dirty and muddy...  Main roads are best...    See you all Sunday...

p.s Mind the pot holes...  Co2 Cannisters are the best (2 seconds and weh heh)...  Let me see what option i go for next...  mmmmmmm...  Have a pleasant week all...

The Sunday Report

11 club members met at the square on Sunday under blazing sunshine and the dynamic leadership of Jim Morrison headed towards the YHA cafe at Ironbridge.

Part way through the ride there was an enormous explosion, several riders squealed (I won't say who) and rode into the hedge for cover.

The explosion startled a field of Partridge who flew through our group in alarm, one passing straight through the Mike Roberts' front wheel.

There was a squark of alarm (from the partridge) and a blizzard of feathers, as the bird was plucked bare. Unharmed but embarrassed it scurried across the road with a wing front and behind trying to conceal it's modesty.

As we looked around to assess the damage it transpired that the explosion was a puncture from Simon (Billy) Brockway who insists on inflating his tyres to 600psi.

We waited for Simon to fix his puncture as he complained "it's no good this mini pump won't go beyond 400psi!" the rest of us helped the blushing partridge back into the feathers we had collected. "Does anyone have a Co2 cannister?" asked Simon. Meanwhile a muddied Dave Clinton emerged from a rabbit warren into which he had ridden for cover. "570psi, does anyone have another Co2 cannister?" asked Simon hopefully.

The rest of the ride was comparatively tranquil save for the brutal climb out of Ironbridge, up Station Hill.

Special mention to new member Sam Stevenson, an accomplished runner who is new to cycling. Despite a broken rear derailleur (partridge damage) that only allowed him into the 21 sprocket, Sam was amongst the first to the top of Station Hill.

The Minutes from the last Committee Meeting have been uploaded to the Committee Meetings tab. You must log on to view this page.

The main decision taken was that the club will now support the Newport Cottage Hospital.

The hospital provides a range of facilities in the local community including day care, bus transport for the elderly and meals on wheels. It also provides physiotherapy and x-ray facilities to support the local GP surgeries.

The facilities are utilised by health visitors, school and district nurses as well as Alzheimer’s Support Group, Rheumatoid Arthitis Support Group, The Women’s Royal Voluntary Service Helpline and Relate Counselling network.
