Warren competed in the Staffordshire Oatcake Road Race on Sunday promoted Newcastle Racing Club.

The 88km race consisted of 5 laps of the flat swinnerton circuit with a drag for a finish with Warren racing in the A cat. of the A,B race. 

K Lilley and Graham Giddings went clear on lap 1 opening a gap of 30 secs  to the bunch.
This gap grew until they were joined by Jones & Donnelly on lap 2. On lap 3 a further breakaway group appeared consisting of 4 riders, but they never made it across to the lead group. The 1st 4 places went to Lilley, Giddings,
Jones & Donnelly coming in 1min up on a group of 4 chasers.

3.  A Harrison

Matt Garthwaite was the sole Newport rider in the Tour of the Wrekin RR promoted by Wolverhampton RCC.

Attacks were put in thick and fast however no one was let to get far up the road with Pete Dale of Oswestry Paragon doing much of the work.

With one & half laps remaining a group of 4 got away (pictured left), and managed to gain a 30second advantage over the bunch. This group included Pete Dale so the bunch saw the danger and pulled the group back half a lap later.

With 2km to go, Matt Garthwaite put in his last big push and attacked on the last hill. He got 50m on a group of 5 riders who had subsequently escaped from the bunch. Garthwaite however had gone to early and got caught by the group of 5 riders leaving nothing left for the sprint finish and came in 6th.

mbXC Mountain Bike Series Round 4 Cannock, August 20 2006

John Gay took to Cannock Chase to ride in the sport men cat on the 20th August.

The course included some evil climbs, some fast descents, some really technical descents and an evil water splash. Plus there was some hidden singletrack that snaked through the bushes before popping you out onto a bare hillside with no time to admire the stunning scenery before once more descending, narrow track cascading over roots, twisting, weaving through the trees as the competitors chased the elusive goal of first home, which was a little under 6, hard, lung busting, muscle twitching kilometers away.

John completed 2 laps in 32.37 and 39.10 to come 36th.

All winners of major trophies, i.e. the ones that were engraved with your name on need to be returned to Alan & Deanna Goddard of 3 Barnmeadow Close, Newport.

Please return these by the end of the month in order for the trophies to be engraved for this years winners.

Claimants of any records/awards are required to submit official result sheets to the times trial secretary by no later than the end of September.

Robert Ogden travelled to Glasgow on Saturday to compete in the Inter Regional Championship Triathlon representing the West Midlands.

Robert came 14th out of the best youth triathletes in the country completing the course in 41min 31 sec, with his bike leg being the 11th fastest.

Newport hosts the 18th Jim Heath 25-Mile Time Trial on Sunday with 6 Newport riders riding.

Gwynn Sayce, Richard Goddard and Richard Wiggin will produce an interesting battle as they all have money down on beating one another. Two years ago Gwynn and Richard Goddard challenged one another with Gwynn winning. All three are taking this duel very seriously as their pride is at stake. Richard G has gone and got himself a coach and has been doing turbo sessions, while Gwynn has been simply been putting in good quality miles.  Richard Wiggin has the most experience this season, riding no less than three 25's. Let the best man win!

The remaining 3 riders Peter Griffin, who has already won the SCCA vets competition, Robert Cannell and first man off Paul Grubert.

Both Ben and Robert grit their teeth with determination at the Youth West Midlands Track Championships held at Aldersley Track in Wolverhampton on Friday 1st September.

Both did well with Robert coming 4th in the sprint against some tough competition, however felt he should have done better after miss timing the sprint.

This Wednesday Wrekinsport host their Hill Climb which is being held on the Wrekin. 

Meet at Forest Glen car park, bottom of the Wrekin at 6.30pm.

Robert Lambton took part in the first of three national rounds of the Youth Track Omnium series in Newport (Wales) on the 20th August.

Robert came 9th, which was excellent condsidering he is only a 1st year U14.

The remaining final rounds will be held at Herne Hill on 10th September and Manchester on the 24th September.
